Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: 12in x 12in
Born and raised in rural South Dakota, Meghan Peterson is a self-taught artist who has been honing her skills in landscape, floral, and still life painting over the past several years. Peterson creates scenes that are familiar and calming, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature around her - whether it be the quaking aspen of the Black Hills, flowers from her parents' garden, or wide-open prairie spaces. Her art is largely representational, though she does occasionally take liberty with color, especially with the subject of trees. Working mostly in oils gives Peterson the freedom to paint in layers, building depth and crafting fine detail. South Dakota Magazine and Oakwood Literary and Art Magazine have featured her artwork, which also hangs in the homes of collectors nationwide.
Peterson has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from South Dakota State University and a master's degree in counseling. By day, she serves as an assistant director and professional academic advisor at SDSU, and by night (and weekends), she paints. She currently lives in Brookings, SD with her husband, Shawn, and the world's worst studio cats, Teddy & Eddie.
